The bad: Silicon handles and echoing plastic material complete show streaks and fingerprints; click handle and management structure takes a bit of getting used to; no interface with DRM songs information, such as those ordered from iTunes or Microsoft zune online stores; AC-only function.
The base line: The Logitech Squeezebox Growth is the best all-in-one table Wi-Fi r / c we've seen currently.
Editors' Note: As of 2009, Logitech has published the >Logitech Squeezebox Radio. It's similar to the Squeezebox Growth analyzed here, but offers a color display, lesser type element, and more affordable price.
One of our preferred streaming-audio products these days is the Logitech Squeezebox Duet. That device makes it uncomplicated to accessibility a variety of Internet- and PC-based electronic songs resources, and pay attention to them in any room of the house. But the Duet is a two-part product--a platform stop, plus an iPod-like distant control--the former of which needs to be installed to an firm of some sort to actually notice any songs. Wouldn't it be great if you could just reduce all that down into a single all-in-one device?
That, simply speaking, is exactly what the Logitech Squeezebox Growth is. The Growth crams all of the program loading features of previously Squeezebox designs into a stream-lined, table music (boom box--get it?). Just visualize one of Logitech's own Pure-Fi systems with incorporated Squeezebox features. Stereo audio audio program are built-in, so there's nothing else to sleep. Just be connected it in, be connected it to the house program (Wi-Fi or Ethernet), and link it to a server--either Logitech's PC-based SqueezeCenter software or its online SqueezeNetwork program, which aggregates a variety of Online r / c, songs solutions, and podcast nourishes in one practical place. You'll need to shell out a bit of persistence into getting things up and running initially, but from then on, it's visiting. The Growth places the volume of the digital-audio world at your fingertips--with the significant warning of DRM downloads available. Apart from a few very modest quibbles, we found the Logitech Squeezebox Growth to be the best overall Wi-Fi r / c we've used currently, and well worth its $300 pricetag. This should be at the top of the list for nearly anyone who's looking for an all-in-one electronic songs.
Design
The Logitech Squeezebox Growth is a pretty stream-lined table unit: 5-inches high by 13-inches large by 5-inches deep. The top side face is set at an angle back a bit, so you can see the display even if you're status up before side of it. Otherwise, the style is uncomplicated and simple: audio program on each side flank a based user interface and display. The lamps topside has a large option that increases as a sleep bar or sleep toggle (15-90 minutes).
