MMA which is a short form for Mixed Martial Arts is a sport in which two players combat each in a six sided ring. MMA includes the usage of a number of techniques like Judo, Karate, Kick boxing and such others. Unlike boxing, MMA is a full contact sport which means that players can use both hands and legs for the fight. Players use a variety of methods to beat their opponents which can include striking (hitting with hands and feet) and grappling (getting the other player to submit). Olymics does not include the sport MMA and there is very little chance that it ever will be included. In the early days MMA was considered a dangerous sport as it can even be used to kill a person, but now it is a different story. Due to the implementation of rules by the UFC, this sport is now more popular and is watched by many people. MMA is now considered a sport that is in par with wrestling and boxing. Because of its growing popularity it now even has a pay per view. During the fights mma gloves protects you and your competitors. Two players fighting must follow a certain strict rules. These rules include both the weight of every player and the equipment which is used by every player. Other than the usage of gloves there is no other equipment for the other players. Fingerless gloves are used by players when fighting to enable grappling. A player can protect his hands from cuts and bruises using these gloves. To prevent a player from breaking his hand a special tape is used to wrap it around the hand. When fighting, gloves of varying weights are used by the player. Some are considerably lighter from the other ones. Concerning weights there are two categories.

1. The professional players, usually wear the gloves which weight only of 4 oz (ounces).

2. The amateur players who have just started fighting have to wear gloves that are 6 oz (ounces) heavier. This is because as they are new to this sport and they have to protect their fists.

Many issues have been faced concerning safety of gloves. Players cannot hit on the head unlike boxing as it may cause heavy damage. Because of this in MMA it is a foul if a person hits on the head of the opponent . Not only this is harmful for the other player but it may also cause damage to the striking player's hand. To avoid any kind of injury mma gloves are required. Many researches has been taken place and the only result was that the large gloves give big injuries as compared to the small one. Injuries through these gloves are mostly injuries to the brain or injuries to the eye. In the past boxers never hit to the face and the brain because they resulted in long term brain fracture, but it was avoided as the gloves were not introduced then. The two types of mma gloves are 4oz and 6oz for professionals and amateurs respectively. To increase the protection and lesser the injuries 6oz are used by the amateurs. To avoid dangerous injuries the amateurs must wear these gloves throughout learning process.
